Create an Instrument

  1. Have all kinds of miscellaneous materials available for this center. Some particularly useful ones are:
    • toilet paper rolls
    • paper plates
    • dried beans
    • empty cans
    • rubber bands
    • cloth
  2. If possible, provide simple books on making your own instruments--these can usually be found in the school or local library.
  3. Have students be creative and make their own instruments. They can form "bands" beforehand and make complementary instruments, and then make a simple song to share with the class.
  4. You may also want to have a whole-class orchestra!
