Center Focus

Scariest Jack-O-Lantern Contest

  1. Your students will have a lot of fun with this center.
  2. They will draw a face for a jack o' lantern, which they can actually use to carve a pumpkin if you can have parents donate pumpkins to the class.
  3. This should not just be a quick triangle nose, mouth, and eyes type jack o' lantern. Leave pictures of designs from books or pumpkin carving kits at the center so the students can get some general ideas.
  4. Let the students know that this is a contest to see who can come up with the scariest design. Their design should be simple enough to carve, but detailed enough to provoke emotion. Students should vote to see whose design is the most frightening.
