Center Focus
What Adds Up to 10?
- You will need several sets of 2-sided counters for this activity. If you don't have them already, you can make your own using lima beans. Simply paint each side of the beans a different color or pattern.
- Your students will shake the counters in their hands (or a cup) and empty them onto the center work table. Some will land on one side and some on the other and these two numbers will ad up to 10.
- They will record the numbers as addition problems (i.e. 7+3=10) in order to find all of the different ways to make 10.
- You may want to have a recording sheet prepared for your students depending on their ability level.
