Center Focus

Spaghetti vs. Macaroni

  1. You will need to create a workmat for this center. Have it laminated for continued use. It needs 3 columns labeled macaroni, spaghetti, macaroni and spaghetti. You may want to add pictures as well. The macaroni stands for the curves in letters and the spaghetti for lines.
  2. Provide letter manipulatives for students.
  3. Students use the workmat to sort the letters. For example: m would go in the "both" column, s in the macaroni, and k in the spaghetti.
  4. Have students record results in graphical form, or simply write down results for each column.
