Melting Ice

  1. You will need ice, salt, a commercial melting compound pie tins, and a timer for this center.
  2. Have your students compare the times it takes for the ice to melt under the following three conditions:
    • ice by itself
    • ice with salt
    • ice with commercial melting compound
  3. Have students record information and have them make it into a graph.
  4. Have your kids come to a conclusion to explain the results.
