- Background: In the late 1990s, the Space Shuttle Columbia launched the world's most powerful X-ray telescope that will study stars, quasars, black holes and other mysteries of the universe. Some people think these missions are very important for us to continue, wheras others feel we have "enough problems" on Earth to deal with and don't need to go to space.
