Vocab Pockets
Using library card pockets (preferably the adhesive kind), make a chart using all of the letters of the alphabet. Write one letter on each card and put them in alphabetical order on a large piece of poster board or other type of matte. Place this chart at the Writing Center along with a stash of index cards. As students are writing and come across words they find difficult to spell, they can look up the word in the dictionary and write it out on one of the index cards. They will put the card in the pocket that corresponds to the letter that it starts with. Students may keep adding to this resource that can be used by the whole class.
