This idea is perfect for younger grades who spend much of their time on the floor. As you know, students usually sit next to their friends on the floor so they can chat, or as close as possible to you so you can't move, etc. To eliminate problems during rug time, have "seats" assigned. Write students' names on masking tape strips in permanent marker and tape them where you want them on the floor. Rotate them occassionally and hopefully there won't be any more arguing about sitting next to friends or close to the teacher.
