Student Management
Australia
Create a quiet area in a corner of your classroom where students can temporarily go when they are "having a bad day." Most students are familiar with "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" by Judith Viorst in which Alexander wants to go to Australia. Name the corner in your room Australia. When students are having a hard time listening or cooperating, or if they just need some time alone, they can go to Australia for a little while. This is an easy way for you to remove them from the situation without causing a big commotion. You can simply motion for them to leave the group for a short time.
