Race in the United States

Some agencies in the U.S. government assign all people to one of four races: Native American, African American, Asian American, and Caucasian. Pose some questions to your class regarding this classification system.

  • Are these four divisions the only true ones?
  • How does overlap play a part in "assigning" race?
  • Who might disagree with these groupings? Should there be groups?
  • What would be a better system?
