Bell Work

Mystery Animal

Bring in a picture of an uncommon animal that your class will most likely be unfamiliar with. Post it where everyone can easily see it. Have them name the animal something that they think is appropriate as well as describing it. Have a list of things for them to predict about the animal.

  • Is it a reptile, mammal, bird, etc.?
  • What animal group does it belong to (cats, bears, insects)?
  • What does it eat?
  • Where does it live (locally and globally)?

After bellwork time is over, share the real story with your students and compare responses.
